The moment we walk into work, we are on duty. We have a responsibility to be as productive and efficient as possible. It may follow that we, as well intentioned as we are, fail to do just that. An example of this would be going through our emails. It's true, our emails are important. Unfortunately, you will more than likely find nothing important or urgent on there.
Anything that truly requires emergency like action would be more likely to get to us through phone or in person. Spending an hour looking through spam and office memos is not as efficient as organizing and detailing the day ahead.
It is also good to realize and be aware of those things which we are grateful for. An hour of mindful recognition of health, family and job security can boost our overall performance at work, home and with friends and families.
During this first hour of mindful recognition, find what will be the toughest activity of the day and tackle it head on! You will more than likely feel good about everything else you have left.
Make sure that you like what you are doing. Wasting hours a day on something we don't enjoy can be the worst if all. It cuts down deep into our being and removes any possibility for making work more than just work. It should not be a chore that we are burdened with. It needs to be something we know gives us fulfillment and happiness day in and out.
